Screened Music News - BRITDOC 08 Focus on Music

Some may remember that last year Screened Music Composer Rob Manning went along to the BRITDOC festival to investigate potential opportunities for composers. He concluded that, though the festival was a must for anyone interested in the craft of documentary film making, there was very little attention paid to the role of music. This year, however, is a very different story as BRITDOC 08 is all about music. The focus is on connecting musicians and composers to filmmakers to initiate new artistic collaborations and give each other the confidence and language to communicate effectively.

Highlights over the three days will include the return of the ‘Would like to meet..’ speed dating session for filmmakers & composers. There’ll be live performance accompanying films, live performers from films, not to mention a host of leading editors, directors and composers sharing their knowledge.

BRITDOC particularly recommend this opportunity to composers and musicians who have worked for film/TV before and have a desire to work in documentary or make new contacts. It is an unrivalled opportunity to meet the best documentary directors and producers in the world and get a preview of projects going into production.

The festival takes place from 23-25 July at Keble College Oxford . Tickets cost £150 a day or £300 for a 3-day pass and can be purchased here.

BRITDOC are offering Screened Music Composers a £50 reduction on the cost of a 3-day pass. The pass will be £250 instead of £300. To take up the offer email lara@britdoc.org mentioning the Screened Music Network.

BRITDOC are also offering 50 composers the chance to attend all three days of the festival, free of charge. They can apply by emailing composed@britdoc.org by the 30th June with a brief synopsis of their experience, listing the films or visual media projects they have worked on, plus a link to a sample of their music. The best 50 applications will be contacted, and given a free pass in early July.
